There are contributions in one’s life for which a “thank you” fails miserably. It’s next to impossible to fully express appreciation for the extraordinary and indelible implications of what this Theaster cat has bestowed upon me, my photography and indeed my family. I refer to six of my images boldly on display at the Obama Presidential Center as blended elements of Theaster Gates’ art - each a striking, visual duet. I’m in my 80s and back in my day “cat” was a really cool expression and believe me cool just doesn’t get more cool than Theaster Gates. Back then, right now or forever. My man! To one Theaster Gates - Man, I figured a “thank you” to you simply wouldn’t do it. So, I decided to openly express to the world, that I understand and grasp the magnitude of what you did for me.
